El barrio de San Telmo forma parte del casco histórico de la Ciudad. En este distrito se destacan casas centenarias, iglesias antiguas y calles empedradas por las cuales circulaban los tranvías.
San Telmo fue la zona donde se instalaron los primeros habitantes, es el barrio más antiguo de la Ciudad. Originalmente, fue habitado por familias aristocráticas de Buenos Aires, hasta que la epidemia de fiebre amarilla de 1871 obligó a moverse hacia el norte.
El centro de San Telmo es la Plaza Dorrego, alrededor se concentran numerosos cafés, restaurantes y anticuarios. La vida bohemia y el tango hacen parte de la atmósfera del barrio.
El barrio todavía conserva la esencia de la antigua Buenos Aires. En San Telmo es posible encontrar un bar donde escuchar tango y beber un café o vino o cerveza con los vecinos del barrio. San Telmo es un barrio elegido por muchos artistas y artesanos para vivir y realizar sus obras.
