La provincia de Salta limita con tres países: Chile, Bolivia y Paraguay; con todos tiene conexión a través de rutas terrestres transitables con cualquier vehículo.

La provincia abarca todo tipo de paisajes: desde la aridez del desierto al oeste hasta el verde de la selva al este, pasando por Valles y Quebradas pronunciadas en el centro de la Provincia.

En las zonas turísticas de los Valles y Puna, hay bastante amplitud térmica, entre el día y la noche, variando la temperatura entre 10 a 15 ºC. 

La ciudad de Salta se encuentra a 1616 Km. de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. 

La arquitectura hispánica de la ciudad la destaca del resto de las ciudades del país. Sus casas, calles, monumentos y veredas angostas enmarcadas en montañas circundantes poseen el espíritu colonial.

El circuito turístico de la ciudad se compone de los corredores urbanos de la calle Caseros hacia la Iglesia de San Francisco y el Convento de San Bernardo, el de la calle San Juan, hacia la Iglesia La Viña, y otros. La ciudad conserva aún la estructura original del Cabildo. 

La Catedral Basílica de Salta, iniciada en 1858, es considerada uno de los templos más bellos de la Argentina. Otro de  los más destacados exponentes del patrimonio arquitectónico e histórico de la ciudad es la Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco, la torre que acompaña al templo es una de las más altas de Sudamérica, con 53 metros de altura.

Salta cuenta con excelente hotelería, gastronomía, casino, balneario municipal, museos -historico y antropologico- y centro artesanal, entre otras atracciones.

En las afueras se desarrollan importantes excursiones entre las que se destaca el Tren a las Nubes, un paseo ferroviario que marcha entre las nubes cuando cruza la Cordillera de los Andes a unos 4220 m de altura.
