La Provincia de Jujuy se sitúa en el ángulo noroeste de la República Argentina y limita, al Norte y al Oeste, con las Repúblicas de Bolivia y Chile respectivamente, y al Sur y al Este con la Provincia de Salta. Una característica de este territorio son las grandes variaciones de altura, se encuentran localidades entre los 350 y 4.000 metros sobre el nivel del mar. En las zonas turísticas de los Valles y Puna, hay bastante amplitud térmica, entre el día y la noche, variando la temperatura entre 10 a 15 ºC.
En todos los sitios de la ciudad se encuentran reminiscencias hispánicas, como las que posee la Catedral Basílica, en pleno centro de la ciudad.
Entre los lugares más destacados que se pueden visitar desde San Salvador de Jujuy están las Termas de Reyes, la Laguna Yala y la población de Río Blanco.
La ciudad conocida como "La Tacita de Plata" se halla rodeada por montañas. Desde este lugar comienza a perfilarse la quebrada de Humahuaca, camino natural de ascenso a la Puna, con sus tierras de cambiantes tonalidades que van desde el azul al rojo.
